Job Description
Job Summary: Responsible for assisting with the management of all elements of volunteer activities of Mid-South Food Bank, including recruitment, coordinating, scheduling, tracking, and training individuals and groups that volunteer with MSFB.
Responsibilities: - Under the direction of the Lead Volunteer Services Coordinator, assist in maintaining and enhancing the MSFB volunteer program to support vital daily operations, general community relations, and donor cultivation, including the recruitment, coordination, recognition, training, and retention of volunteers and other administrative duties
- Assist with volunteer scheduling, confirmation, motivation, accreditation, and thank you process
- Liaise with MSFB departments for which volunteers are needed to understand expectations, develop partnerships, manage relationships, and assess volunteer needs
- Using the volunteer database in VOMO (volunteer software), collect volunteer applications, contact volunteers for scheduling, log volunteer hours, thank volunteers for their service, produce recruitment appeals for volunteers for special events, monitor the self-scheduling system, and update volunteer activities and descriptions based on MFSB needs.
- Answer questions and provide information to volunteers and external organizations through face-to-face, telephone, and email contact within 24 hours of the initial contact.
- Work with court-ordered community service volunteers and provide reports and verification of time as needed to the courts
- Represent MFSB volunteer services at various community events and other speaking engagements to communicate volunteer opportunities, promote volunteer activities, and raise awareness of the importance of volunteers to MFSB
- Greet volunteer groups and ensure training and support in their work; work alongside volunteers to ensure they understand the job, especially in sorting/packing food; be available to answer questions and direct workflow as needed.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships to ensure the success of MSFB programs and enhance volunteer experience. This includes maintaining positive interpersonal relationships with agency representatives, donors, volunteers, and MFSB staff

Qualifications - Two years of college or equivalent business experience
- Demonstrated ability to manage priorities
- Computer proficiency, including knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially MS Excel and Word, with the ability to produce clear written and oral reports, and the ability to learn the current Volunteer software program
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to handle a diverse range of people
- Strong human relations skills: ability to work and communicate with diverse populations
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and respond appropriately
- Knowledge of reasonable record-keeping procedures and ability to maintain accurate records and files
- Organizational and team coordination abilities with attention to detail, ability to multitask, and think creatively
- Ability to operate a manual or powered pallet jack, forklift certification a plus
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
- Professional and pleasant demeanor with all internal and external contacts and the capacity to motivate and inspire others
- Motivated self-starter who can anticipate needs and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment under pressure-sensitive situations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Work requires stooping, reaching, typing, grasping, and other repetitive motions
